Have you ever listened to yourself pray especially in a time of crisis? How focused on God are we as we cry out to Him for help? How focused are we on the problem and in making it seem all the more hopeless to the Lord in the hopes that He will answer it faster?
In Dr. Charles Stanely's devotion for today, he drew my attention to 2Chronicles 20:1-18, where an army was getting ready to attack Jehoshaphat. What did Jehoshaphat do?
He did not gripe about the situation. Or became so overwrought with fear that he could not think or act. He immediately called together the people of Judah to fast and pray! No hesitation.
When they got together to pray, you would think Jehoshaphat would cry to God in such pain and anguish. After all their lives were on the line; they were about to be invaded by a huge army.
No. Jehoshaphat gave glory to God and lifted up his own faith by praying to the Lord all the wonders He had already done for Judah. Not only giving God credit for the goodness but reminding Jehoshaphat and the others of the Lord's faithfulness to them through the ages in turn giving Jehoshaphat and the others new found faith and trust in the Lord to take care of them once again.
And Jehoshaphat ended his prayer with the words "nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You. (v.12)" Amazing. For we do not know how to do it Lord, it is impossible for us but for You nothing is impossible.
Praise God! Glory be to the King!
