How long must I suffer with this thorn in my side, Oh Lord? 2Corinthians 12:7-10 has always been such a great reminder to me of why we suffer through certain difficulties time and again.
Saul who became Peter after his conversion declared his reasons for being so arrogant - a good pedigree, educated, religious fervor.....Do we have this problem too? We see all the great things about ourselves that we are unwilling to recognize or change that which may need some attention. Do our good characteristics really outweigh our bad?
Absolutely not! We are a prideful people. If you notice that the Lord has placed a constant thorn in your side, ask yourself what is He trying to tell me. Do I really think I can make it in this life alone? Do I not need His help let alone the help of others? This is pride, my brothers and sisters.
There are days that I wish I could just go it alone because if some of these people did not stand in my way than I could do more, easily even for the Lord. But is that how God wants us to react to His creations? Of course not.
We are here to love even the toughest of individuals.
So remember that thorn is there to poke holes in the inflated balloon you call personal strength. We need others and we absolutely need our Lord! Allow him to deflate your ego and give praises for the tough times and tough people in your lives - they are making you stronger.
God Bless!
