In continuation of "Are you burned out?", number 2 on the list of relieving burnout is: rest. Jesus said to us, "come to me, all you who are weary and burdened." Rest in the Lord. Take a break.
We run around like a chicken without a head. Expecting to be able to keep up the same pace each and everyday without it taking a toll on our heart, mind, and body. We are not machines. We were made from dust. And He who made us even took a break after completing His work.
The Lord instructs us and commands us to rest on the seventh day. We are to get all our work done in 6 days and rest on the seventh in God's Holy name. Allow the world to take care of itself and spend the day reflecting on the Lord and His Good Word.
Don't think the world can live without you for one day? The world won't be able to live with you if you do not take the rest.
Taking my Sabbath break has been very trying for me. A husband and six children does not leave much time for me to get done what I need to get done or what I want to get done. It is time to make sure that the children and hubby are doing their share. But also to make sure I am physically and emotionally taking care of myself so that I am equipped to get done what needs to get done each week. Keeping up with my morning exercise has helped me gain energy throughout the day. Giving myself to the Lord each and every morning has been very refreshing for me. Asking Him throughout the day what should I do next has been eye opening. It is amazing at how much more I accomplish when I seek the Lord throughout the day.
The great thing is the Lord knows when I need a refresher. And He instructs me there too. I am not talking about an hour nap in the afternoon. But have you ever tried to just lay there with your eyes closed and meditate on God. Think of Him. Let Him know God I am going to lay here for about 10 - 15 minutes with you and allow you to refresh me. And just breathe in and out deeply, releasing your tension, and giving the Lord your burdens. He will renew your heart, mind, and soul. Try it today. At work? You get breaks don't you? Go out to your car, under a tree, find a closet - do it!
Rest in the Lord, brothers and sisters, allow Him to restore your salvation and renew your spirit. Let Him be your rock and fortress.
