Have you ever spent a restlessness night wondering why you could not get back to sleep? What did you do with your time?
I have had many a nights and figured that I was given this time to do my work before my family awoke.
I was wrong. It was God trying to reach me and get my attention. He had something important to tell me and I did not bow down and ask Him what it was He wanted to tell me.
In the book of Esther, King Xerxes has a restlessness night. He asks his servants to get the book of Chronicles and read it to him. The book details an assassination plot that was foiled by a man named Mordecai. The ruler made plans to honor him for this act of service.
What Xerxes could not have known, though, is that this hero had been targeted by Haman, one of the royal advisors. Not only had Haman plotted to hang Mordecai the Jew; he was also planning to exterminate the entire Jewish population. As a result of the king's intervention, however, Mordecai and all of the jews were saved.
So what started this process? A restlessness night. If King Xerxes had not taken heed to his restless spirit that night and listened to God through His Word, he may not have been forewarned of this assassination attempt and may not have intervened and saved Mordecai and the jews.
So the next restlessness night you have, bow down, and ask God what it is that He needs to tell you. Be quiet and still and allow Him to open your heart, eyes, mind, and ears to His Word and speak to you. He has something really important to say to you. He may even be trying to warn you of upcoming unpleasant events that could be stopped if just take a moment and listen to Him.
I know I wish I had during my sleeplessness nights.
God Bless! Take care of yourself and listen for God's voice in the still of the night calling to you. Answer His call!
