How is the Lord speaking to you?

Sometimes the Lord has a hard time getting our attention.  He has a message to give to us and we are just not hearing it or are just not obeying it.

Can you remember anytimes that you have been so engrossed in yourself and your daily life that you could not hear God?  What did you do?  Or what did He do to get your attention?

We need to be in prayer  with our Father God and reading the Scriptures each and everyday in order to be prepared to hear God's calling and messages to us.

So how is He trying to get your attention today?  God speaks through many situations or people.

Speaking Through Odd Circumstances
Moses was raised as a prince but now he has been exiled.  His life was certainly not turning our as he expected it.  Moses was most likely filled with fear and anxiety.

God needed Moses to lead His people out of Egypt.  Yet Moses was in no condition to hear this message let alone believe He was the one God had chosen for this task.

So what did God do?  He met and spoke with Moses through a burning bush.  Sometimes the Lord needs to do such wild things to get our attention and to have us focus on the task at hand.

Keep your eyes open to see what burning bush the Lord may be using to get you to stop, look, and listen!

Speaking Through Failure
Pride.  Awful, consumable pride.  We allow it to run our lives sometimes.  We work to rid ourselves of it to only have it spring up again. The Bible is very clear in that God hates pride.

We all hate to fail which is why this is the perfect way for God to get our attention when we are prideful.

Israel though they could defeat whomever they wanted after God allowed them their victory in Jericho.  They disobeyed God's instructions for the city of Ai and they were defeated.

Just because God allows us a mighty victory does not mean He will allow us to win the small ones too.  Keep your pride in check.  Do not think you can do this on your own.  Follow God's instructions.

When we fail, seek God and rid ourselves of our pridefulness.  Failure today can lead to great success tomorrow.

Speaking Through Tragedy
Once again we find the Israelites are griping about God's instructions to them. They are inpatient with the long journey in order to avoid a dangerous people.

They are again have turned their minds away from the Lord, but instead of sending another miraculous sign or blessing, God chose to get their attention by sending poisonous snacks into their camp causing the death of many people.

What was their response? They immediately sought forgiveness and asked Moses to intercede with the Lord for them.

This is an intense, personal way for the Lord to seek our attention.  We should never assume what the Lord is trying to tell someone through their own tragedy.  But when tragedy strikes us we should examine ourselves and our lives and seek the Lord to reveal what it is He needs to tells us or wants us to do.

Speaking Through Sickness
Would God really use illness and affliction to speak to us?  Absolutely.  Everything happens with good reason. God wants what is best for us.  He is not concerned with our immediate comfort and short-term happiness but with our long-term goal of salvation and eternal life.  He wants you with Him in the end days so if he needs to stop you in your tracks with some sickness to get your attention.  He will do it.

Saul was one of Christianity's worse enemies.  God afflicted him with blindness on the road to Damascus in order to seek him.  Did this get Saul's attention?  Sure.  Three days of blindness leaves a lot of time for self-examination and communication with the Lord.

If you experience illness do pray for healing but also pray for God's message to you.

Be not afraid for the Lord is with you always!  Stop, look, listen, read, prayer....hear the Lord calling you, my friend, so that all will go well with you.

Remember we all need a little jolt in our spiritual life once in awhile or more often or less often.  We are only human and God understands this but He will get your attention if He wants it.

In God's Love,

Mary Ludolph
