I too suffer from such a thorn, as Paul refers to it in 2Corinthians. Why would God give us a thorn in our side? As 2Corinthians 12:7-10 tells us it is to keep us humble. We are a prideful people. We are a strange people. One moment we are bowing before God telling Him how undeserving we are of His love and the next minute we are feeling so awesome in His Spirit and grace that we tend to forget Him and move through life in our direction - folks that is pride.
So I am happily reminded by the Lord why He continues to allow that thorn in my side - because His grace is sufficient for me to carry me through any turmoil and in my weaknesses His Holy Name will be made strong. So be thankful for that thorn - it is keeping you from becoming bigheaded.
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2Corinthians 12:7-10)
