It astounds me when I think about Mary, the mother of Jesus. There she was a young teenager taking on such a grownup responsibility. Although back then a young girl was probably more responsible than they are now. But still all of 13 or 14 years of age, most likely, in a stable with her only her husband giving birth to this young baby.
No medicine, no doctor, no bed, no heat. Smelly animals, labor pains. It amazes me, Father, how you have equipped our bodies to just know what to do. To contract to bring that baby down and to push when we feel the pressure of the baby in the birthing canal.
Then there is Eve, the first mother of earth. How did she know she was even pregnant? What was happening to her?
She must have been scared when she started laboring. How did her and Adam know how to cut the cord and that the placenta would need to pushed out from her body?
For that matter when she first got her menstrual period, how did she feel? What was she thinking?
We are blessed to have this knowledge today from the experience of the mothers before us.
Thank you, Lord, for all the mothers before us that needed to endure the unknown, the pain, the fear in order for us to be more knowledgeable today.
Faithfully Yours, Mary
