1 Corinthians 13 - the love chapter. Mostly read at weddings. We cherish these words as a testament of two young lovers uniting their lives in matrimony. Their whole lives to be centered on one thing - love!
Unconditional love, oh, how sweet the sound! It's easy right? Well isn't it? Don't you love your very own children unconditionally? Don't you love your husband or wife unconditionally? Don't you love that rigorous neighbor next door that is just so chipper in the morning unconditionally? Oh, come on, now I know that you do.
The truth is if we all followed Christ's examples our world would probably not be in such chaos. However, we are all still learning and the Bible indicates that the world is supposed to be in such chaos - a sign of the times - the end times. But lets leave that for another discussion.
I was reading 1 Corinthians 13 today as part of my devotional. I saw it in a different way. You see I can see myself going off track at times especially with my husband and my one son who make it extremely difficult to love them. Do you know anyone like that? Or are you someone who is difficult to love. You know the type. Always knowing everything. Very competitive. Always have something to say. Never completely satisfied with their food or surroundings. Need something to complain about even if there is nothing wrong.
Anyway I can feel myself just rolling the eyes in the back of my head. I can feel my stomach pitting with the very next comment.
So the other day when my husband had to boast about doing the dishes. Some silly remark to make sure I saw he did them as if I did not see and say thank you this time. (And before you think I have ice running through my veins. My husband is laid off 80% of the year. And since I am just getting over mono, he needs to step up and pick up the slack.) Instead of saying something totally bitter to him. I turned it into a joke. He liked that and it brought a smile to his face and we kissed.
Hmmm! It was kind of out of character but it brought peace and love to the household so it was all good. Reread 1 Corinthians 13 today and see what needs to be changed in your life to better serve those around you with your charitable ways.
Show some brotherly love and receive it in return.....
